He says, "Bianca I want you to meet Lisa." The woman stands behind him and pulls her hair back. I can now see her face clearly. Nothing in life could have prepared me for the vision of this woman. He called her Lisa, but the shocking reality becomes painfully clear, the woman is myself. I just witnessed the impossible. I want to wake up and step out of this dream. But I'm frozen in fear, afraid that I'll wake up in my bed and rub the sleep from my eyes, and discover that I'm actually someone else. I will realize the sad reality that this was all a dream. That my entire life was a merely cruel trick that someone played on me. Yet I feel a huge shadow of self-doubt lift over my entire being and my burdens are suddenly released and cleansed with joy. ...I hear the screen door slam shut behind me as I run out into the yard. The summer grass is green and cool wet under my bare feet. My Dad pulls hard on the rope stretched over the hanging oak limb high above his head. He's been working hard. I wait patiently as he grunts and heaves and finally forces a knot into the big rope. He lifts me into the air with a wink, and slips me into the old tire. "Hold on buttercup!" he yells as he pushes me through the air and lets me go. I can barely contain my excitement and I squeal with delight from the sheer exhilaration. My mom is watching from the kitchen window, she's busy making lunch. I call out, "Mom, look at me I'm swinging really high! Come out and watch me." I feel my dad's giant hands softly pushing me forward on each return. I'm flying; I'm flying at last. Overhead the big limb creaks, the leaves rustle and the birds are singing. I'm seven years old and that's my dad and my mom, and now I understand the meaning of life. It's never been more clear! My mom yells to me from the screen door, "Lisa lunch is set. Come inside." My dad lifts me out of the big round tire and sets me back on the ground. "Do you like your new swing Lisa?" I take his hand as we run towards the porch together. "I love it dad…and I love you!" My mouth opens and I finally speak, as the tears gush from deep inside me. "Eric, now I understand."
